“I am Sputnik” exhibition under 3rd Ural industrial Biennale Program will be held from 29 October to 30 November 2015.

“I am Sputnik” project will start in the Yekaterinburg gallery of modern art. It is devoted to futuristic art experiences at the beginning of XX century. You will see a dialogue between modern artists about role of avant-garde art in today’s Russian history. There will be paintings, art-objects, assemblage and repoussage.

Two events from the history of Russian avant-garde culture celebrate their 100th anniversary. The first is Malevich’s Black Square, which was hidden for 50 years from Russian viewers. The second is the foundation of “317 Chairmen of the globe” by Velemir Chlebnikov in Moscow. It was utopian spiritual Government of new world. At the turn of the of the 20th and 21st centuries Ural artists turned to primitivism, collage and abstract symbolism as did early avant-garde artists.

Four Yekaterinburg artists think about Russian mentality and its combination with technical progress. Nikolai Fedoreev, Vladimir Zhukov, Igor Shurov and Anton Taksis with some irony get ethic and aesthetic concepts from non-aesthetic materials such as metal, plastic, tools, political symbols. Nikolai Fedoreev’s monumental installations will be presented for the first time. He was a prominent exponent of Ural sots-art and a leader of Sverdlovsk underground art 1980s-1990s.

You can visit the exhibition till 30 November every day from 11 am to 8 pm.
